Although below average temperatures have been the story for the recent period, even colder temperatures are expected to move in for much of this week.

An arctic airmass has settled over the region and will continue funnelling frigid cold air into the area through mid-week.

The coldest temperatures during this event will be in the overnight and morning hours each day, however there will be little relief from the cold as many areas will continue seeing wind chill values of at least -20ºC to -25ºC during the afternoon hours for many days.

At this time, the coldest day appears to be Wednesday, especially in the morning, where wind chills of -30ºC to -35ºC are expected across the entire region. Some areas may fall below -35ºC and being approaching -40ºC.

Ensure you bundle up if you are heading outdoors. Extreme cold affects everyone. Be sure to bring your pets inside as well, it will be too cold for them to be outside!

The Advance Weather STORM CENTRE will be open for the duration of this extreme cold event due to the frigid temperatures, and multiple risks for lake effect snow.

Cold Weather Safety

Extreme cold affects everyone, and frostbite can develop within only a few minutes, especially with wind chill in play.

Ensure you bring your pets inside, as the extreme cold will affect them as well. Check on your neighbours, as well as older friends and family.
